- חֲטַר 1) to cut off (denom. חוּטְרָא I, twig, cmp. גֶּזַע ). 2) to fence in (cmp. גדר, גזר ). Targ. Job 14:8Denom. חוּטְרָא II. 3) (denom. of חוּטְרָא I) to whip, strike. Sabb.67a בלועא דחמרא חֲטַרְתֵּיה (Ms. M. חטבתיה) with an ass jaw I should strike him. Pa. חַטֵּר to provide with a vertical stroke (חוּטְרָא). Men.29b דחַטְּרֵי להו לגגיה דחי״ת (Ms. M. דהוו חַטְרֵי ליה Pe.) they used to put a vertical stroke on the roof of the Ḥeth.
